Aaaaaand we're back.

Right, new year, time to get back into this. Should have a fair bit more free time now so I can devote myself fully to exploring my atrocious cooking skills.

I still don't have an oven (although one should be arriving soon, next month at least) and my hobs are...broken. One is set to FULL all the time now, so I have to unplug it when I want it off. Joy.

BUT we can still do something. So ideas? What would you like to see this week?

Was thinking maybe something like a Beouf Bourguignon...also got a nice looking recipe for Braised Beef in Guinness that looks quite nice. But I'm open to ideas at this point.

Currying Favour

OK so I've decided to go ahead with a Jalfrezi, in particular, this one

I'll make one substitution, vegetable oil instead of ghee. I'm not dicking around for hours simmering butter. I'm a man of action!

Otherwise known as 'I forgot to make ghee so I'll have to use something else'

So, proper food post will be up either tonight or tomorrow morning. See you on the other side!

Back In the Game

Hello! I'm BACK. With MONEY. And therefore able to buy stuff to COOK.

So! What's this week? Well I'm thinking; curry. I've been dying for a good curry recently, but unfortunately the French ones aren't...quite...to my taste. A little on the weak side, sort of 'soup with herbs' instead of robust spicy curry flavourings.

This weekend I'll try to turn my hand at curry making, and we'll see what kind of a mess I make. I would like to make my own naan bread, but that'll require an oven (I think, if I'm wrong, please correct me) and I don't have one.

The recipe I was directed to by a friend is this one, which looks fairly simple and nice. If anyone's got better suggestions, please give me a poke and a shout and I'll pop over for a look.

Cheers! And I'm out.

Still Alive

My delectable foodfriends, I still live! And this site will be OVERFLOWING with new posts shortly.

I've been off recently due to a minor financial crisis (I spent my money in the pub.)

BUT payday is fast arriving and I intend to get some posts sorted again.

I'm thinking paella this time, as I saw a post on another site where the paella turned out almost soupy. So I fancy giving it a go, but trying to make a decent go of it. (And not burning any pans in the process, for once).

I'm still not decided, but we'll see.

But yes, just to let you know this place isn't abandoned and I'll be experiencing more terrible trials in the kitchen before long.

Updates

Erm...yeah no updates this weekend. I've had a 'cash flow crisis' meaning that I'll be lucky if I eat for the rest of the month, never mind try to create stuff for here.

When I gets paid, I'll make a proper post. Hopefully next weekend.

Food Blogs

So I've got these links on the left side, basically two of them were the inspiration for starting to write and take pictures of my terrible attempts at cooking.

Food Vagabond isn't updated so often these days, but it's a tale of eating in Germany, Italy and sometimes IsraelTurkey (whoops). It's very accessible and made me hungry just reading the first few entries.

Eating Asia was an eye opener. The food photography here is simply amazing, and it's reassuring to anyone planning to visit Asia, as it lays to rest awful tales of dysentery and bug eating. Of course one should still be careful, but it's mouth watering to see and read about amazing food available so readily on the streets of Cambodia, Vietnam etc.

Chile Fire is one I've only discovered today, but it's looking good. Solid pictures and a decent write up of each recipe, and it's concerned with spices and their usage. Not got far into it yet, but today's main page about spicy boiled crawfish, smoked sausage and corn is fantastic.

So there we go; I'll be making a proper post this weekend. Have no fear!

Izzle Dizzle Ezzle Azzle Sizzle

So Monday Morning, here's this week's IDEAS post. Any ideas for this week's adventure?

I'm fancying something lighter and potatoless. I was looking at tuna steaks. Maybe I could try fish? I've never really attempted fish before, apart from one salmon steak adventure that did go quite well.

So post your ideas below please. PLEASE.

Corned Beef Hash

I know it's a Delia recipe, but this recipe sounds bloody delicious.

Don't know if I'll go for corned beef hash this weekend, but it's a definite 'maybe' and I have potatoes to use.

And everyone loves fried eggs.

Ideas! Ideas! I......d......e...a....s!

Mornin' all.

So I'm looking for ideas about what to cook next weekend. I'm game for anything really.

The only stipulations I have for ideas are.....

1) Has to be able to be cooked on two hobs. (My kitchen is woefully inadequate.)

2) Can't be too expensive (I'm poor this month, stupid insurance bill)

SO! Please give ideas, I'll see what I can, ahem, cook up this weekend!

Cheers chaps.

Paprikas Krumpli

Feeling Hungary )

Aug. 14th, 2008

A start, of sorts.

Hi!

Well that went well.

OK, I started this blog because I'm interested in food, and cooking, and have felt over the last couple of years that I've just been eating too much crap, and not enough well prepared food.

So I've started this blog to document my attempts at cooking, at failing at cooking and also at eating bloody nice food (well, hopefully).

I have at my disposal, a kitchen with only two hobs, so anything grilled or baked is right out, but I should be able to get some interesting things made nonetheless.

Each weekend I'll try to cook something nice, take photos of it and post about it here. I'll also be looking for suggestions of what to make, as I want to expand my repertoire.

Hopefully this'll also get me to explore Paris a bit more as well, as I'll no doubt have to rummage around for some ingredients that I can't get at the local Monoprix.

So lets go! This week I'll be doing an old favourite but something I do love to make, just to get the ball rolling. This week it's a Hungarian dish called 'Paprikas Krumpli' and I'll be posting about it this weekend, so keep an eye out!
